How to Make Custom Avatar on Vrchat Quest
VRChat is known for the colorful characters you can meet in the game. These characters come from all over; if there is a character you like, you can use him or her as your avatar.
In the game you can create and use your own avatars, but it's not really explained how to do that, or at least it's not clear. Luckily, we've got this figured out for you and know how to get your perfect avatar into the game. Just follow these steps:
Download Unity and VR Chat SDK
To get started, you need to download a few things: the Unity 5.6.3p1 file and the SDK for VR Chat.
Unity has recently been updated, but you need version 2018.4.20f1. Make sure you download this version to get it working. The download and installation process is very simple and user-friendly.
The SDK file is available on the VR Chat website. If you logged into the game via Steam, you'll need to create a new account. You will have the option to choose between SDK 2.0 and 3.0. The SDK 3.0 works with the new avatars and features, but does not work with creations made with version 2.0. But for beginners, you can start with the best version 3.0.
Once both are downloaded, install them on your computer.
Connecting to VRChat on Unity
After you install Unity, open the program and start a new project. Once you've done this, look at the top of the screen. You can see the VRChat SDK here, which opens a drop-down menu when clicked.

Click Settings, which will be the first menu item. A small window will open asking you to log in to your VRChat account, which you did when you downloaded the SDK.
Find an avatar to install
Maybe you're a technical genius who can program and animate your own avatar, but you're probably looking for a standard product just like us. That's where vcrmods.com comes in.
This page is full of avatars that the community has created and shared with everyone. You can browse through the current avatars and even search for specific characters. People love them, so you have no chance of finding a specific character.
Once you find the avatar you want, just download it.
Import Avatar in Unity
There are several ways to import an avatar package into Unity :
- You can then open it immediately in Unity.
- Right-click on the project area and choose Import Assets and then Custom Assets. Then find the downloaded package and open it. A small window will open in which you should press the Import button.

In both cases, you will see the scene file in the project area.
Define VRChat descriptor
Before you can prepare and create your avatar, you must give it a description.
You can do this by going to the researcher section of your screen and clicking on the Add Component button at the bottom. A menu appears with the different options you can use.

Just search for Avatar in the search bar and you will see a pop-up option called VRC_AvatarDescriptor. Select this option and it will be configured for your avatar.
Publish your avatar
Now it's time to prepare your avatar for life in the world, so back to the VR Chat SDK menu. Select Show Control Panel from the drop-down menu.
A new window will open with several tabs for you to choose from. Go to the Builder tab. At the bottom of this section, you can select the Build and Publish for Windows/Mac option.

It is important to note that for security reasons, Unity does not allow you to export avatars before you have used the software for a certain amount of time. Just play around with the program and get familiar with it, and eventually you will learn that you can export your projects.
All you have to do is download the game and find the avatar you want to use.
